How to determine tire size

When you have decided to buy new tires for you car, you need to figure out what size tires are correct for your vehicle. There is a code on the sidewall of all car and truck tires that can be used to determine the size. In addition, the tire size can be usually found in the user manual of your car. Additionally, you can use the tire size finder on our website to find out what is the original tire size of your car.

An example of tire size code might look like this:

P215/65R15 95H

This means: P – This tells you what type of tire it is. In this case, it’s a passenger (or “P”) tire.

215 – This is the width of the tire in millimeters. In this case, the tire is 215 millimeters wide across its most narrow point.

65 – This is the aspect ratio, or sidewall height, of the tire. In this case, it’s 65% of 215 millimeters, which comes out to about 155 millimeters.

R15 – This tells us what rim size is correct for this particular tire. In this case, it’s a rim that is 15 inches wide.

R – This tells us if this is a radial tire or an old-fashioned ” bias ply ” tire. In this case, it’s a radial. And that’s what the R stands for in most cases.

95 – Speed rating of the tire in mph . In this case, the 95 means that this particular tire can safely travel up to 149 miles per hour.

H – This is the load index of the tire and how much weight (in lbs.) it can carry. In this case, the H means that it can carry up to 1310 lbs.
