Based on our research, the Yokohama Iceguard IG52C is a winter tire made for heavy winters. It has a very strong winter performance, with deep treads and a strong grip. Although they don’t have studs, they can grip the ground with any level of snow and ice.

These tires are pretty affordable and work with minivans and passenger cars. For a safe, affordable ride throughout the winter, these tires are a great choice. They are marketed as year-round tires but mostly work well in the winter.

Read on to learn the full statistics and performance of the Yokohama Iceguard IG52C tire.

Iceguard IG52C Overview

Yokohama has been creating tires since 1917 and specializes in winter tires. The grooves on these tires are extra deep and have resistance to snow, ice, and sludge. They are studless, so they should also work on dry roads.

The Iceguard IG52C is for crossovers, SUVs, and minivans that need to get around in the harsh conditions of winter. It uses the Yokohama Bluearth technology to make it more eco-friendly and get more gas mileage out of the tires.

One of the most substantial downsides of Iceguard IG52C is that Yokohama markets it as an all-weather tire with an emphasis on winter performance. The reality of this tire is that it is excellent in the winter but doesn’t perform as well in the summer.

Iceguard IG52C: In-depth Review

Below, we’ll take a closer look at how these tires perform in different terrains and situations.

Because this tire is meant to be excellent in the snow, performance is the most crucial factor to examine in the Yokohama Iceguard IG52C. It rates very highly in snow and ice. While it has weaker performance in dry or warm weather, the wet and snow performance is excellent.

Snow Performance

Reviewers say that they can use these tires for multiple winters in a row without the tread wearing down. They do especially well in slush and snow and lift the tires above inches of accumulation to provide a smooth ride.

They gain excellent traction on ice as well, making them ideal for any winter conditions. The braking distance is very safe, according to tests and user reviews. Overall, the Iceguard is an excellent winter tire but not great for all seasons.

Wet Performance

The Yokohama Iceguard was created for snow, so it makes sense that it works well on wet and rainy roads. These tires can gain traction in slippery conditions, whether ice or rain.

The only regular issue with the tires in the rain is turning at high speeds. The sides of the tires aren’t as strong, and they can sometimes lose grip on the road. However, if you take turns safely, these tires perform very well in the rain.

Summer Performance

Unfortunately, this tire does not perform as well in summer. The deep tread and excellent traction on icy and wet roads leads to extra noise and discomfort for passengers in warm or dry conditions.

The Iceguards handle wet and snowy weather but don’t translate well to dry roads. When spring hits, it will be time to change to a summer tire.

The handling of the Yokohama Iceguard is relatively smooth for a winter tire. It lifts and creates a smooth ride with very little sharpness in turns. Overall, the handling is excellent, especially for the difficulties of winter driving.

There are a few common complaints about turning in the rain with this tire. This problem is common with Yokohama tires. No matter how good they are with snow, sleet, and slush, many Yokohamas struggle in rainy conditions, especially when curvy, twisty roads are involved.

Noise and Comfort

These tires are very comfortable for winter driving. They lower the road noise during the winter and increase comfort. The overall comfort of these tires is excellent in both winter and summer.

User reviews say that the noise increases during dry weather, but that is a normal phenomenon for winter tires. Noise is where this tire tends to score the lowest in reviews. Although the noise is louder during dry and warm months, the Iceguard tire is generally considered an extremely comfortable ride for passenger cars.

Unfortunately, there’s no mileage warranty on these tires. However, several reviews have used them for more than 10,000 miles in the winter. If you replace your winter tires with summer tires every year, you’ll be able to make these tires last for several seasons.

The durability of these tires decreases for users who keep them on the cars year-round. Because they’re meant for wet and snowy conditions, the Iceguard IG52C doesn’t handle dry weather very well. It wears down on the tread and makes the tires wear out quicker.

One of the selling points of the Yokohama Iceguard IG52C tire is that it’s affordable. For a premium winter tire, this is lower than the average price. For the price, it is an excellent tire that will last and give you the worth for the price.

It lasts exceptionally long for a winter tire. The tread will stay deep and last for several years, which is great durability for an excellent price.

These tires use Yokohama’s Bluearth technology, which uses the tire’s rubber and coating to release less CO2. It uses less gasoline and increases your miles per gallon, saving you money and helping the environment.

Overall, this tire is an excellent choice for winter performance throughout the season. It works for passenger cars, crossovers, and even smaller SUVs to provide traction in the winter. For those with minivans, it’s a great tire to keep for tough winters and deep snows.

These tires are similar to the Bridgestone Blizzak, another winter tire developed for passenger cars. They might not do as well as the Blizzak in deep snow because the tread is not as deep. However, the Yokohama Iceguard is a cheaper option than the Blizzak.

Although it doesn’t work as well in the summer, if you can’t find all-weather tires that you like, this is an excellent option. Many customers choose all-season tires instead of switching from summer to winter tires every fall and spring. However, all-season tires wear out quickly and need replacement sooner.

After our research, we’ve concluded that the Yokohama Iceguard IG52C is an excellent tire for anyone who lives in a wintry area and needs a robust tire for the colder months. For every dollar spent, you’ll get miles of safe winter driving with these tires.
