Don’t have time to read everything? Here’s a quick summary of our review as well as pros & cons listed.

To see how we reached our conclusion, read on for the full breakdown of the Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 tire. The article has been organized and split into three sections:

  • Overview
  • Performance Breakdown
  • Recommendations & Conclusions

Now, buckle up, and let’s see what the Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 can do for your vehicle!

Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 Overview

The Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 tire is an all-weather / all-season tire designed for your passenger sedans, crossovers, and minivans. Kumho focused on safety and high-mileage use for the TA91s and a 6 Years / 45,000-mile limited warranty to guarantee it.

Kumho is known for performance tires, though they also have a range of practical tires such as the TA91—and their prices match their quality of selections. The Solus TA91’s price range leans towards average to low for its performance (between $109 and $213 per tire). However, that price tag comes with Kumho quality.

The Solus TA91 has impressive test results for such a low-priced tire—even in light snow. But it is important to note that the TA91 is not a snow tire, and you might want to consider a designated snow tire if you plan to use your vehicle day-to-day in the cold and slippery months.

Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 Performance Breakdown

Now let’s get between the treads and break down the Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 tires.

Performance

The Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 tire is most impressive in overall performance. The tires are designed for a quiet and comfortable ride with a trustworthy grip thanks to their solid silica-reinforced construction and don’t give much in transitioning between dry, wet, and light snowy conditions.

Kumho incorporated a two-ply polyester casing that adds comfort and durability, while asymmetric steel belts reinforced by spirally wound nylon enhance steering and high-speed capability. User reviews appear to back this up.

Wet

Performance while wet is where any tire shows its true colors. The Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 performed excellently in wet tests conducted by TireRack.com.

The tire’s inboard elements focus on wet traction and hydroplaning resistance while its four wide, circumferential grooves are high-angles with lateral notches so that water can pass without disrupting the tire’s grip on the road.

Customer reviews reflected that the wet grip made them feel safe and comfortable, even in heavy water conditions.

Dry

The Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 smashed performance tests conducted in dry weather out of the park. It did remarkably well in cornering stability, dry traction, and steering response with its silica-compound-molded asymmetrical design and outboard tread which delivered solid dry performance.

Customers reported that the tire delivered on the smoothness and low volume in dry conditions, and turning in dry conditions was unmatched and felt solid.

Snow

The real test: snow. With Kumho’s asymmetric silica-compound tread design and reinforcing sipes, traction and braking were no problem for the TA91 in snowy conditions, especially for an all-season tire.

As the tires wore, the quality didn’t fade, users reported.

The four wide, circumferential grooves also supported the tire’s performance in light snow by using its high-angle and lateral notches to pass the standing snow from under the tire.

Customer reviews reported that in some cases, the Kumho tires were so reliable in the light snow that they didn’t even switch to winter tires. With that said, we want to reiterate that the TA91 is not a Winter tire, so if you foresee a season of heavy snow and ice, you’ll want to consider a dedicated snow tire for that not only performance but safety as well.

Handling

Handling on the Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 offered no problems and was excellent in almost every case except deep snow. The Majesty 9 Solus TA91’s internal structure consists of a two-ply polyester casing, and the asymmetric steel belts were reinforced with spirally-wound nylon to increase handling from low to high-speed capability.

Some customer reviews noted that the handling began to shake as the speeds reached higher miles per hour.

Noise and comfort

Noise

This is where the Kumho shines. According to TireRack.com’s noise tests, it scored excellent in this category.

The tire’s chamfered block edges were designed for sound minimization. It also has a designed pitch orientation in the blocks which reduces noise.

Customer reviews raved about the volume of these tires being little to almost non-existent in almost every case.

Comfort

The Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 remains smooth and comfortable in a variety of weather.

The tire’s internal two-ply, polyester casing increases the tire’s comfort and durability.

User reviews claimed that the comfortability of the TA91’s drive was noticeable and consistent, and in certain cases felt like an upgrade to the suspension.

Durability

Kumho scored highly in treadwear tests. The company offers a 6-year / 45,000-mile warranty on the TA91 to back up its durability.

Customers reported that the tire lasted about as long as expected.

Price

Kumho never necessarily has meant more money out of pocket, but with this tire, you’re getting more quality than you pay for.

From performance in wet and dry to durability, the TA91 lives up to expectations set by their manufacturer name over their many years in developing and producing trustworthy tires.

Recommendations & conclusions

Recommendations

The Solus TA91 stands out in its performance, noise, and durability. While it is on the average to low side price-wise, its overall quality reflects a more expensive tire.

User reviews reflect similar sentiments, and most recommend the tires for a variety of reasons covered above. Some even reported they would be buying a second pair.

The Solus TA91 has since been replaced by the Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA93, which has upgrades such as increased snow and icy weather performance as well as a lower rolling resistance.

If elements of the Kumho Majesty 9 Solus TA91 don’t appeal to you, we recommend the following tires in/around the Majesty 9 Solus TA91’s class and price category:

  • BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport LT
