I want to point out that there are a lot of people who don't usually drive in busy urban areas or go racing. They have different needs such as towing and driving on rural and dirt roads. Discount's tires are perfect for these customers. As someone who drives a lot and tows frequently, I can attest to the quality of these tires.

If you’re considering purchasing well-rounded off-road/on-road all-terrain tires, then you may be considering the Firestone Destination A/T2. This article will provide you with an objective, research-driven review of these Destination A/T2 tires.

This review is created through our in-depth research on manufacturing stats, testing data, and user feedback. We know that accessing real-world data is critical to deciding what kind of tires to purchase for your vehicle, and this review will provide that crucial information.

Don’t have time to read everything? Here’s a quick summary of our review as well as pros & cons listed.

Firestone Destination A/T2 – Overview

The Firestone team designed these tires to perform reliably in wet weather, snow conditions, and both on and off-road conditions. The price and performance situate the tires as an excellent option for those willing to spend a bit more to access reliable, dependable, well-rounded A/T tires.

The Firestone Destination A/T2 tires are designed to excel in all four seasons, replacing and surpassing the previous design of the Firestone Destination AT tires with an improved, aggressive tread design that provides superior toughness, traction, and durability both on and off-road.

In this review, you will learn more about these on-road/off-road all-terrain tires’ tread design, durability, grip, toughness, and dependability. We compiled the best research and reviews on how these Firestone Destination A/T2 tires perform to help you make the most informed consumer decision.

In-Depth Review

Below, we have provided a review of the Firestone Destination A/T2 performance in wet, dry, and snowy conditions, its braking distance, handling, responsiveness, noise and comfort level, durability, off-road capabilities, warranty, and pricing.

In Wet Conditions

The tread of these tires is designed with Firestone’s hydro-grip technology, which helps improve handling and safety while driving in wet conditions, including resistance to hydroplaning.

On Dry Tracks

According to user reviews, the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires provide a fantastic balance between wet and dry track performance. While the hydro-grip technology and design offers that important grip and hydroplaning resistance in wet weather, it is engineered to provide a smooth ride and responsiveness on dry tracks as well.

In Snowy Conditions

Additionally, the Destination A/T2 tire’s sidewall is branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol (3PMSF). To obtain the 3PMSF symbol and be considered “severe snow service-rated”, the tires met required snow performance criteria through testing the tires’ grip, durability, and handling on a straight-line acceleration track on medium-packed snow.

Braking Distance

According to the testing results by Tirerack.com, the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires had a stopping distance of 69.0 feet in the snow with a deceleration speed of 25mph to 0mph. On the ice, the test results conclude that the Destination A/T2 tires had a stopping distance of 54.0 feet with a deceleration speed of 12mph to 0mph.

Handling

The Firestone Destination A/T2 tires are intentionally designed to provide an excellent balance between off-road capability and smooth riding. This balance is where these tires shine as a truly versatile, flexible all-terrain option. If you’re looking for A/Ts that can provide durability and the ability to tackle modest off-roading, while offering a smooth ride on pavement, the Destination A/T2 would be an excellent option.

Responsiveness

On a test track, drivers noted that the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires handled curves on a wet track at 40mph better than expected. This is due to the engineering of the stiff sidewall and aggressive shoulder tread pattern. This design once again was engineered for a balance of off-road/on-road balance.

Noise and Comfort

Upon road testing concluded by Tirerack.com, the tread pattern of the Destination A/T2 tires is noted to create a low drone noise while driving, as well as a higher-pitched noise as the vehicle gained speed. The testers concluded that the noise generated from these tires is within reason for A/Ts, but it is something to note for those who are interested in an especially quiet ride.

In terms of overall comfort, the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires provide a noticeably smoother ride on pavement and over bumps than other all-terrain on-road/off-road options.

Durability

The engineers at Firestone wanted to make sure the Destination A/T2 tires would last, so they created these tires with full-depth interlocking 3D spite technology. This design ensures that these tires will perform consistently, with an even wear across the tread through thousands of miles of use. The sipe pattern of the tread helps ensure traction and grip, while the interlocking 3D technology provides maximum handling ability and comfort.

Off-Road Capabilities

While the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires aren’t designed for extreme off-roading, their aggressive shoulder tread pattern, specialized tread compound, hydro-grip technology, and stone rejector technology are all designed to perform well off-road while providing a smooth on-road experience.

Warranty and Pricing

Firestone is offering these Destination A/T2 tires with a 55,000 miles limited warranty. Depending on the tire size, these all-terrains are currently being offered in the range of about $160 to $290 per tire. That generally puts these tires on the high end of affordable all-terrain tires or the lower end of higher-end all-terrain tires.

Recommendations

For the price, the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires are an excellent choice for drivers who want a well-rounded all-terrain and all-season option that can perform well for daily driving while also being capable of hitting moderate off-road terrain.

Across the board, the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires receive pretty stellar user reviews.

User Reviews

According to an in-depth survey concluded by Tirerack.com of Destination A/T2 owners, these tires scored good and excellent across all categories:

  •  In off-road performance: an excellent 8.6 of out 10.
  •  In wet conditions: an excellent 8.7 out of 10.
  •  In dry conditions: an excellent 9.2 out of 10.
  •  In winter/snow performance: a good 8.5 out of 10.
  • In comfort performance: an excellent 9.0 out of 10.
  • In treadwear performance: an excellent 9.2 out of 10.

Comparisons

In tests compared side-by-side with the Destination A/T2 tires’ competitors, the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 is probably its stiffest competition. The Geolandar A/T G015 performed notably well across driving condition tests and slightly outperformed the Destination A/T2 tires. However, when we look at user reviews, the Firestone Destination A/T2 tires are more favored.

The Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 tires are also a solid choice for all-terrain, all-season tires, and are within a similar price bracket as the Destination A/T2 tires. Either option will likely provide a well-rounded experience, and the choice may come down to aesthetics and user reviews versus testing results.

Conclusions

Remember, these tires are not designed for extreme off-roading, but if you see yourself wanting to take weekend trips to your favorite remote campsite while being able to drive on your ATs daily, then these Destination A/T2 tires may be a fantastic choice.

If you’re looking for a higher-end on-road/off-road option, look into these Cooper Discoverer Rugged Treks. If you’re interested in a budget all-terrain option that will still offer on-road and off-road functionality, these Goodyear Wrangler Radial All-Season tires may be what you’re looking for.

Ultimately, the Firestone Destination A/T2 is an excellent choice for drivers who want an option that blends the durability, performance, and traction of thoughtfully designed off-road tires with on-road handling and smoothness.
